Well, OK, The "I told you so"-ers should be having a field day with this one. I am talking about the car jacking the other day in
St. Louis that went sour because the victim was an armed, recently resigned St. Louis City police officer. Having just resigned to
move out of town he was carrying a private firearm, illegal in the city even when properly licensed, and used it when faced with the
need for self defense.
This is a perfect example of the quandary the city has made for itself. The supply of police officers on the road or on foot is
desperately short of what is needed to even try to prevent violent crime.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the city of St. Louis is a perfect poster child for the argument in favor of
concealed carry arguments. The only way that man could defend his family, life and property is with a gun that the city does not allow.
The city is not in a position to supply enough police to watch every block of the city, which is the only way to prevent most violent
crime. What do you do? 1: break the law figuring the trade off is worth the legal cost. 2: rely on the police and run a too high risk
of dying from a gunshot wound (remember the bad guy has a gun, he doesn't pay attention to the law), 3: move out of town. The victim
in this case had chosen to leave. Remember he had inside information, and new exactly the crime situation in St. Louis. I guess he just
did not leave fast enough.
The moral of this story is undeniable. The only way you protect yourself and stay legal is run for your life. Follow the lead of the
police officer. Get out of St. Louis, fast. Stay out. After all they obviously do not want you anyway as they refuse to let you protect
yourself, and refuse to provide manpower to do it for you.
I would also remind you of the out of town visitor who died a couple of weeks earlier just because some vegetable wanted his wheel covers.
Unarmed he had no chance. The perpetrator had the law on his side. I think he/she went into the crime knowing he was safe from facing the business
end of a gun.
If these brain-dead asses are afraid of only one thing, they are afraid of being shot by you. Absolutely nothing else will work.
The sadist part of all is that the city officials know that and do not care.
