A.R.C.H. monthly meetings

Guests are always welcome!

A.R.C.H. monthly meetings presents a forum to welcome new members and guest visitors, discuss past and current club issues, ask for help and expertise from other club members, and (most importantly) Show and Tell for our members' most recent projects. We also have an active swap table in the back at every meeting (no fee for members), with radios and restoration aids for sale.

•When: 2nd Tuesday of the month (see a list of meeting dates)

•Where: The Kirkwood Community Center (Room 201A) at the intersection of Geyer Rd & Adams Rd. (get a full set of directions)

•Time: Although members start socializing around 7:00pm, the meeting formally begins at 7:30pm and last to about 9:00pm.

Our monthly meetings are a great deal of fun. Our meetings are very informal with an emphasis on enjoyment rather than procedure. Here's how a typical meeting goes...

•7:00 to 7:30 - Swap radios, parts, books, and generally enjoy each others' company.

•7:30 to 7:45 - Formal meeting where we handle the business of the club. Topics include:

◦club activities & projects

◦planning local antique radio events

◦plan trips to out-of-town antique radio events

•7:45 to 8:00 - Technical question and answer session to allow members with questions to tap the knowledge of other members.

•8:00 to 8:30 - Show 'N Tell - Members bring in items from their collection to share with other members. Many unusual and one-of-a-kind items appear here!

•8:30 to 9:00 - More swapping, social activity, and fun!

•9:00 to ?:?? - A little more fun. Many club members adjourn to a nearby restaurant, Ruby Tuesdays for a little more fun and some late night dinner [directions to Ruby Tuesday].

Each meeting features an antique radio raffle and there are many nice radios given away at each meeting!

Holiday Party

December's meeting brings the club's holiday party and gift exchange. A.R.C.H. supplies the turkey and ham, and members bring a buffet feast side dishes. The cooking is excellent and the camaraderie even better. A mystery gift exchange follows dinner where gifts range from the really cool to really bizarre. Of course there is always the "antique radio booby prize."

Picnics and Swap Meetings

In addition to our monthly meetings, the Antique Radio Collectors & Historians holds two picnics/swap meets every year. These picnics are open to the public and fun for the entire family. Admission is free and we always have a nice barbecue. At the picnics, many club members empty their garages, closets, and basements and there is a busy swap meet. This is a great place to pick up antique radio stuff because members usually bring trailers full of auction items!!! In the afternoon club members bring out the "big guns" and give technical and historical presentations on their personal collections and know-how. Displays may include rare radio or television sets, early crystal technologies, collections by manufacturer or time period, or by marketing gimmick. Lectures may include basic radio circuits, repairing antique loudspeakers, and tube histories.
